Report: Broncos expected to pursue Dalvin Cook

Perhaps this is why the Denver Broncos recently cut three running backs in less than a week.

The Minnesota Vikings are set to release veteran Dalvin Cook, and once that cut becomes official, the Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins are among the teams expected to pursue the running back, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Dolphins and Broncos "have been monitoring Cook for weeks," according to Schefter. Minnesota has tried to trade the RB, but after failing to find any suitors, the team is expected to release him.

Cook, 27, was drafted by the Vikings in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft out of Florida State. At the time, current Denver general manager George Paton was serving as Minnesota's director of player personnel.

Cook (5-10, 210 pounds) has rushed for at least 1,000 yards in each of the last four seasons, earning four Pro Bowl nods. In six years with the Vikings, Cook has totaled 7,787 yards from scrimmage and scored 52 touchdowns.

The Broncos already have Javonte Williams, but he is currently working his way back from an ACL injury he suffered last October. Denver also added insurance this offseason by signing Samje Perine during NFL free agency.

"I was taught a long time ago to stack them up at that position," Broncos coach Sean Payton said of the running back position in May. "It's a tough position in our league."

Stacking Cook with Williams and Perine would form quite the backfield trio. Stay tuned.
