Pueblo's top high school games to watch this week: golf, tennis, soccer and more

The fall sports season is quickly reaching its midway point and lots of teams are starting to get into the heart of their league schedules.  

This week's games of the week feature some great action on the golf course, a few important matches on the tennis court, a big game on the pitch for boys' soccer, a classic early season matchup in softball, as well as volleyball and football matchups.  

Each week, the Chieftain selects the best home games to watch for the week. Here are our selections for the week: 

Boys Golf

  • Cyclone Invitational 
  • Pueblo South vs. Pueblo County vs. Pueblo East vs. Pueblo Central vs. Pueblo West at Desert Hawk Golf Course, at 8:30 a.m. on Sept 11
  • East Invitational 
  • Pueblo West vs. Pueblo South vs. Pueblo Central vs. Pueblo County vs. Pueblo East at Walking Stick Golf Course, at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 13

This week there are two major invitationals in town as Pueblo West hosts their Cyclone Invitational on Monday at Desert Hawk Golf Course. South, County, East and Central are all scheduled to take on West. On Wednesday, East hosts their invitational at the Walking Stick Golf Course where those same schools will compete as well.

Boys Tennis

  • Pueblo Centennial vs. Pueblo Central at Pueblo Central, at 4 p.m. on Sept. 11
  • Pueblo South vs. Pueblo Central at Pueblo Central, at 4 p.m. on Sept. 12
  • Canon City vs. Pueblo West at Pueblo West High School, at 4 p.m. on Sept. 12
  • Pueblo West vs. Pueblo Central at Pueblo Central, at 4 p.m. on Sept. 14
  • Pueblo County vs. Pueblo East at City Park, at 4 p.m. on Sept. 14 
  • Pueblo South vs. Pueblo Centennial at City Park, at 4 p.m. on Sept. 14
  • Pueblo Central vs. Pueblo County at Pueblo County, at 9 a.m. on Sept. 16

There will be lots of tennis action this week as Centennial visits Central on Monday. Then the Wildcats play host to the Colts on Tuesday, while the Cyclones welcome Canon City to their courts. On Thursday Central hosts West, County travels to East, while South visits Centennial. Finally, on Saturday you can see Central take on County in the morning.  

Boys Soccer

  • Pueblo East vs. Pueblo West at Langoni Field, at 4 p.m. on Sept. 12
  • Pueblo County vs. Pueblo Centennial at Dutch Clark Stadium, at 5 p.m. on Sept. 12
  • Pueblo Central vs. Pueblo South at Pueblo South, at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12 
  • Dolores Huerta Prep vs. Pueblo Central at Pueblo Central, at 5 p.m. on Sept. 14
  • Rampart vs. Pueblo Centennial at Dutch Clark Stadium, at 10 a.m. on Sept. 16

There are big matchups on the pitch this coming week as County takes on Centennial at Dutch Clark Stadium and East takes on West at Langoni Field. East is looking for its first win of the season and West is looking to keep pace with the top of the South-Central Standings. Later in the evening Central and South battle it out as well. On Thursday, Central plays host to Dolores Huerta, and Centennial will take on Rampart in the morning on Saturday.

Softball

  • Pueblo Central vs. Pueblo Centennial at Runyon Field, at 5 p.m. on Sept. 12 
  • Pueblo County vs. Pueblo East at Diorio Field, at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12
  • Pueblo Central vs. Pueblo West at Pueblo West High School, at 4 p.m. on Sept. 14
  • Pueblo East vs. Pueblo Centennial at Runyon Field, at 5 p.m. on Sept. 14
  • Pueblo South vs. Pueblo County at Runyon Field-DiIorio, at 7 p.m. on Sept. 14
  • Rampart vs. Pueblo Centennial at Runyon Field, at 10 a.m. on Sept. 16

South-Central League action this week on the softball diamond as top-seeded South and West face off against each other on Tuesday afternoon. Central visits Centennial and County visits East all on Tuesday as well. Thursday will see Central battle against West and East face off against Centennial while South and County battle it out. Centennial finishes the week off with a game against Rampart on Saturday. 

Girls Volleyball

  • Harrison vs. Pueblo Central at Pueblo Central, at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 14
  • Holly vs. Swallows Charter Academy at Swallows Charter Academy, at 7 p.m. on Sept. 14 
  • Rocky Ford vs. Swallows Charter Academy at Swallows Charter Academy, at 10 a.m. on Sept. 19
  • Holly vs. Rye at Rye High School, at 3 p.m. on Sept. 19

A few games on the volleyball court this week as Harrison visits Pueblo Central on Thursday while the Spartans host Holly later that night. On Saturday Rocky Ford visits Swallows and Holly will take on Rye in the afternoon.  

Football

  • Justice vs. Dolores Huerta Prep at Dolores Huerta Prep High School at 11 a.m. on Sept. 19 

Lite action this week on the football field as all of Pueblo is out on the road this week except for Dolores Huerta Prep, who will have their first official home game of the season against Justice at 11.
